Match of the week Sounders FC vs Crew, also why Galaxy, Real, and Fire are my favorites for this Saturday

D.C. United – New York Red Bulls –  4.00 PM – TeleFutura

The Red Bulls are off to a 4-1-0 start with 12 points – the best start in the club’s 15-year history. They can match their 2009 win total (a 5-19-6 record) with a victory Saturday – just 37 days into the 2010 season.

United, on the other hand, have matched the worst start in club history. The 1996 team lost its first four games (the final one by shootout) – before eventually winning MLS Cup. United finally won the game, on Wednesday they beat FC Dallas 4-2 in US Open Cup. This could be a close game, but I think Red Bulls are way more organized as team than United even at their best.

CHRIS PICK: 2 Red Bulls at rate 3.00

New England Revolution – FC Dallas – 7:30 p.m. – MLS Direct Kick

The Revolution on Monday announced Shalrie Joseph has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the club to deal with personal matters. A hip injury has limited the Grenadian international to one game. The Revolution have defeated FC Dallas in 10 of the last 12 meetings in MLS play, as well as in the 2007 U.S. Open Cup Final and to be honest I don’t see any reason why this trend might change this Saturday, especially after FC Dallas 2-4 lost on Wednesday  to weak United.

CHRIS PICK: 1 Revolution at rate 2.10

Chicago Fire – Chivas USA – 8:30 p.m. – MLS Direct Kick

The Fire have a three-game winning streak alive against Chivas USA, winning both meetings a year ago, as well as the final meeting in the 2008 season. Chicago also won in SuperLiga group play last year. The Fire have not allowed a goal for 189 minutes, as Krzysztof Krol has staked down the left back spot. But the Polish international will miss the Chivas game as he serves a one-game suspension for a red card. Fire is on Fire and should be able to get 3 points out of this game.

CHRIS PICK: 1 Fire at rate 2.00

Houston Dynamo – Kansas City Wizards – 8:30 p.m. – FSC and FSE

The Dynamo might have suffered another injury blow, as midfielder Geoff Cameron was forced out of Saturday’s game with a knee injury and his absence or even not beeing 100 percent ready may give some edge to Wizards, who almost win last week with Galaxy. Last week Wizards defense looked really good even without Jimmy Conrad. Wizards defender Jimmy Conrad is getting better, but it still remains to be seen whether he plays against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday.

CHRIS PICK: X2 Wizards at rate 1.95

Real Salt Lake – Toronto FC – 9 p.m. – MLS Direct Kick

Each of the last two seasons, home form has held in the series between the clubs, with each winning in their home stadiums. The last week loss in Columbus was the third in a row on the road for RSL, all against teams that finished in the top four in 2009, but all those games been very close. The RSL attack was helped with the addition of Javier Morales and Robbie Findley just after the hour mark. Both were coming off groin strains, and Real coach Jason Kreis said they would be limited to 30 minutes, but that should be enough for inconsistent Toronto FC.

CHRIS PICK: 1 Real Salt Lake at rate 1.80

San Jose Earthquakes – Colorado Rapids – 10 p.m. – MLS Direct Kick

In last game against New England, Rapids coach Gary Smith started his team in a 4-5-1 formation – and both goals came from central midfielders. The opener came from Mehdi Ballouchy, moved into the middle as regular forward Omar Cummings shifted to the right flank. This trick might not work on small field at Buck Shaw stadium, where Earthquakes usually play well. The Quakes and Rapids tied both matches they played in September of 2009, and both games were leveled by stoppage time penalties converted by Conor Casey of Colorado. In this Saturday game Quakes are my favorites, however draw in this match won’t surprise me.

CHRIS PICK: 1 Earthquakes at rate 2.30

Seattle Sounders FC – Columbus Crew – 10:30 p.m. – MLS Direct Kick

Sigi Schmid has yet to lose to his former club while in charge of Sounders FC. The teams played to a 1-1 draw in the first meeting in May in Seattle last year, then Sounders FC came away from Crew Stadium with a little weird 1-0 win on Oct. 3. Why weird? Sounders at the time badly need points to make the playoffs, when Crew really had pretty much everything already assured. All the sudden Sounders won in Columbus and those 3 points have been crucial for them to make the playoffs last year. Is not a secret that some of Crew players are very close friends with current Sounders coach Sigi Schmid, but at this point of the season that should not affect the game at all.

It will be a test as Seattle is facing arguably the two best teams in Major League Soccer in Columbus and Los Angeles. It’s a challenge coach Sigi Schmid welcomes. Two wins would reestablish Seattle as a feared team in the league.

“It gets us six points, which is the most important thing,” Schmid said of potentially winning two at home and earning a boost in the standings. Are you kidding Sigi? I don’t see it Seattle getting 6 points from the next two games and in my opinion number of points from Sigi’s wish list will be adjusted.

I am taking Crew with draw, Columbus after this game will remind undefeated regardless of  Guillermo Barros Schelotto playing time.

CHRIS PICK: X2 Crew at rate 1.725

Los Angeles Galaxy – Philadelphia Union – 10:30 p.m. MLS Direct Kick

That scene was played out Tuesday night after the Union’s 2-1 loss to Red Bull New York, its second loss by the same score to the I-95 rival in a 72-hour period. Union boss Peter Nowak made his young club run sprints around the pitch at Red Bull Arena for an extra 25 minutes after the game.

“If you don’t want to run during the game, you can run after it,” Nowak smartly replied when asked his reason behind the punishment. “These guys need to know that this type of play is not acceptable; we can’t keep having games like this.”

Union CEO and managing partner Nick Sakiewicz added: “They’re lucky it wasn’t me [making them run], because I don’t think they ran long enough.”

Those runs and talks not going to change the fact that Galaxy are sure favorites on Saturday and everything other than their sure win, will be surprise of the season. Because Galaxy such a huge favorites, bookmakers already lowered the rate to 1.5 and may go even lower, so alternative bet is over (2.5 goals) at 2.025 rate.

CHRIS PICK: 1 Galaxy at rate 1.5

CHRIS PICKS: this season 20 17 = accuracy  54 %
