This might be shocking for some, and some may disbelieve but US soccer fans might not see on their TV screens soccer legend  Eric Wynalda as often as they used to.

Great, intelligent announcer, often controversial but always brutally honest commentator, has his coaching aspirations.

It’s hard to believe,  but  at this moment no MLS or US Soccer team is interested in Eric Wynalda coaching service. Wynalda’s knowledge about the game itself,  Major League Soccer and US Soccer in general is obvious and sure a lot deeper than some of the coaches currently employed by MLS clubs. In United States of America no one seem to recognize Eric Wynalda coaching talent, soccer intelligence, knowledge or experience?

Is this bad news for Eric, MLS or for US Soccer? Well, just quick reminder that once no one recognized Jose Mourinho coaching talent in FC Barcelona, and we all know what happen later. Let’s hope that will be the case this time, but how US Soccer can let go his legend?

Ridge Mahoney from Soccer America reports that rebuffed in his efforts to coach in MLS or with U.S. Soccer, former U.S. international Eric Wynalda is taking up with a third division Mexican club.

Mexican club Murcielagos has hired Wynalda as its president of international operations. He says he will scout for players to be placed into the club’s player development system, and solicit player exchange programs as well as marketing and sponsorship opportunities.

“It’s kind of strange that I would end up in Mexico,” says Wynalda, “but I want to coach. If somebody down there thinks that you can contribute, that’s where you end up. Right now there’s just not a place for me in U.S. Soccer or in MLS. “I’m excited about this, I really am. We want to expand the brand and open up player development opportunities in the U.S. I think the chance to play and train in Mexico will appeal to some players, and I think being involved with a club like this will be great for them and for me as well.” READ FULL STORY by Ridge Mahoney at Soccer America

The Mexican team is Murcielagos and they play in Second Div Premier.

  3. Eric has always something to say and not everybody in US Soccer like that. That’s all. Why don’t he take D.C. United coaching job together with Ben Olsen. Easy job, because can’t get any worse then this season. Wynalda should go to D.C. not to Mexico third division, I hope he is just kidding
