CHICAGO (June 8, 2011) – U.S. Soccer has announced the possible home teams for the second round of the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Results from the first round of play on June 14 will determine the matchups for the second round to take place one week later on Tuesday, June 21.
All 32 lower division teams will enter the first round of the tournament and have been grouped geographically into eight groups of four teams. Once the groups were established, a blind draw then determined the matchups.
The two first-round winners from each group will face off in the second round on June 21, with these winners then advancing to the third round on June 28 to face the eight qualified Major League Soccer teams. The quarterfinals will be played on July 12, followed by the semifinals on Aug. 30 and the 2011 U.S. Open Cup final on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
