Newcastle v Fulham 2-1

Newcastle are yet to concede a goal in the league this season after a 0-0 with Arsenal before last weeks famous 1-0 derby win against rivals Sunderland. Fulham have struggled for goals, but have also failed to keep them out, drawing 0-0 against Aston Villa before a 2-0 reverse against Wolves.
Fulham have also squeezed a lot of games into a short space of time after joining the Europa League competition very early. This extra workload has appeared to have hindered them somewhat, and they have not been at their free flowing best so far this season.
Newcastle talisman Joey Barton has been given permission to discuss a possible transfer to QPR and this will not help spirits in the United changing room. They showed in the away win against Sunderland however, that they have more battling qualities than they are given credit for and two clean sheets from two games illustrate the defensive strength they have.

Tottenham v Man City 1-5

Tottenham started their league season at Old Trafford after their original opening fixture was postponed. That match was a real baptism of fire, and although Spurs more than played their part in an entertaining match, in truth, they were outclassed. Manchester City arrive at White Hart Lane with a similar line-up of star names, but Spurs will feel more confident of forcing a result at home.

City have been free scoring, racking up seven goals in two games. But the defensive lapses at Bolton cost them two goals and that will not please Italian coach, Roberto Mancini. The Blue side of Manchester expect a full title challenge from their team this season and this match represents another stern test of those credentials. After the away trip to Bolton, this is another tricky away encounter.
Spurs were unlucky not to score at Old Trafford, and City have shown enough defensive frailty to suggest that Tottenham can get goals. At the other end, City have been irresistible, even with Carlos Tevez only enjoying one brief cameo so far this term. Sergio Aguero and David Silva have been the stand out performers in the Premier League so far.
TOBIAS Prediction OVER 2.5 goals
CHRIS Prediction 2 Manchester City to WIN

West Bromwich v Stoke 0-1

West Brom have faced Champions Manchester United followed by Chelsea in their first two games – there can be no tougher start to a campaign. Although both games were lost 2-1, Coach Roy Hodgson will take some heart from the performances, but will also be aware that a result is needed this week, to ensure his team do not fall too far behind.

Stoke ground out a stubborn draw against Chelsea before needing a late equaliser to get a point from the game at Norwich City. Their lack of goals will be a concern for Coach Tony Pulis as will the disappointing away form of last term. These were the sort of fixtures that Stoke could not manage to get anything from, and they will need to change that in order to progress this season .

Manchester United v Arsenal 8-2

Manchester United were extremely impressive in overcoming Tottenham last weekend. Despite depleted resources in defence, the Red Devils maintained a high level of performance and managed to keep Spurs out for the full 90 minutes.

Phil Jones and Tom Cleverly were particularly eye-catching, and the relatively young age of the starting XI bodes very well for the future of the Manchester giants.

Arsenal have had another huge week. Samir Nasri has departed for Manchester City, but probably more significant was the midweek win against Italian club Udinese. The 2-1 away win in the return leg sealed a 3-1 aggregate win, and ensured the London club progress to the lucrative group stages of the Champions League, worth an estimated £25m ($40m).

Had the Gunners failed to qualify, the rebuilding that Coach Arsene Wenger needs to start would have been much tougher. Star names will not be attracted to North London if the lure of Champions League was not available. Both Cesc Fabregas and now Samir Nasri have both departed in recent weeks and Arsenal fans were already frustrated by the lack of transfer activity. If the Gunners want to mount a title bid – or even retain their top four position, at least 5 signings look necessary before the transfer window shuts on August 31st.

United are oozing confidence, while Arsenal are rebuilding after a summer of turmoil. The Gunners are always capable of making life difficult for the best sides in the world, but this trip looks a step too far even for them.

Aston Villa v Wolverhampton 0-0

This derby finds both clubs in fine form. Aston Villa were held to a goalless draw in their opener, but beat Blackburn comprehensively in the next game – easing some of the pressure on Alex McLeish. Two late goals in the League Cup against Hereford also kept spirits high with a 2-0 win so the Villians will be pleased with the start they have made.

Wolves are also on the crest of a wave. Two League wins has them rubbing shoulders with Manchester United and Manchester City at the top of the table, and a 4-0 midweek win in the league cup keeps them full of confidence.

Matt Jarvis was linked with many clubs after being named in the England squad in the Spring, but Wolves have retained his services and he is again putting in some eye catching displays. The return to fitness of Kevin Doyle has also given Mick McCarthy’s men a lift during the summer.

Both defences have been tight so far this season, conceding just 1 goal in total in their three competitive games.

TOBIAS Prediction UNDER 2.5 goals
CHRIS Prediction OVER 2.5 goals

Wigan v QPR 2-0

QPR gained a morale boosting win away at Everton last weekend and that will do a great deal for their confidence – as will not conceding a goal after their opening 4-0 drubbing by Bolton.

Wigan will pose different problems and got some valuable home wins during the last campaign, proving they are a strong side at home. QPR suffered a shock League Cup exit in midweek, losing 2-0 to Rochdale – this illustrates their priority this season, which is Premier League survival. It is a tough test at Wigan, and Rangers will need to prove their away win at Goodison was no fluke.

Wigan themselves opened up with a tame draw against Norwich and will be anxious to show their fans a bit more this time. The away point at Swansea was welcome, if a little underwhelming. Goal scoring will be the key to the Latics season.

TOBIAS Prediction UNDER 2.5 goals
CHRIS Prediction OVER 2.5 goals

Blackburn v Everton 0-1

Blackburn look to have real problems. Two games, two defeats, five goals conceded. The defensive lapses can be blamed on injuries but a solution does need to be found quickly. Ground lost in the early weeks can be very difficult to make back.

Everton were beaten at home by QPR in their only game so far. Some rustiness may have lingered from the Toffee’s delayed start to the season, but there will be no such excuses here so a reaction is an absolute necessity. Everton are notoriously slow starters but Coach David Moyes has voiced his intent to avoid that this year. This is a big match for his team

Rovers still have absences in defence and the display at Villa, where they lost 3-1, was more worrying than the result itself. A repeat of that first half performance will mean no chance of a result – whoever the opponents.

TOBIAS Prediction X2 Everton WIN
CHRIS Prediction UNDER 2.5 goals

Chelsea v Norwich 3-1

Chelsea are yet to hit top gear after a draw at Stoke was backed up with a home win against West Brom. Norwich have been stubborn but they will need a bit more than that against the Blues. The Canaries 4-0 loss at home in the League Cup will not help their confidence, even if the competition is not high on their list of priorities.

Chelsea have signed Juan Mata from Valencia during the week and it will be interesting to see where he slots in. He may have to wait for his debut depending on his fitness however.

Stamford Bridge has been a fortress over numerous seasons and the chances for Norwich look slim. Chelsea may not have been spectacular but they have got results and as the team get used to playing under their new manager, things will improve week by week.

TOBIAS Prediction 1 Chelsea WIN
CHRIS Prediction 1 Chelsea WIN

Swansea v Sunderland 0-0

Swansea have failed to score in both their league games so far, and were also beaten by lower league Shrewsbury in their midweek league cup game – where again they appeared toothless in front of goal. If they are to retain their Premier League status, they need to create more chances, and score more goals.

Sunderland enjoyed a good performance at Liverpool in their opener, but were disappointing in the derby against Newcastle, going down 1-0. Coach Steve Bruce will expect a response after the flat display last weekend and will also hope that the extra week together will have helped his new signings gel. Sebastian Larsson continued his good form in the League Cup and the Black Cats will again hope for a big performance in Wales against Swansea.

TOBIAS Prediction X2 Draw or Sunderland WIN
CHRIS Prediction UNDER 2.5 goals

Liverpool v Bolton 3-1

After the win away at Arsenal last weekend, Liverpool will want to build on that result and mount a title challenge. Bolton however, respect no reputations as they showed when pushing Manchester City all the way in their 2-3 defeat last week. After scoring six goals in two games, Bolton will be confident of getting past the Reds defence.

Liverpool breezed through their League Cup tie in midweek, where Luis Saurez and Andy Carroll both got themselves on the scoresheet in a routine 3-1 win against lower league Exeter.

Both sides have taken a very positive approach in their opening games and if that trend continues, goals should be expected. With Andy Carroll beginning to recapture the form of last season, Bolton will need to be solid defensively to keep him at bay.
