With the dust still settling from the last round of Premier League fixtures when the Manchester clubs rattled up 13 goals between them, Bolton and Wigan are next in line to try and tame the two teams with a perfect record. Elsewhere, Chelsea will try and keep pace with the leaders when they travel to Sunderland, Arsenal will try to recover from the mauling at Old Trafford when they take on Swansea at home and Blackburn, West Brom and Tottenham will all try and secure their first points of the season, against Fulham, Norwich and Wolves respectively.

Arsenal v Swansea 1-0

The Gunners will be smarting after the humiliation of their 8-2 thrashing at Old Trafford. Arsene Wenger responded by finally getting involved in the transfer market, signing five players on deadline day, including defenders Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos, plus creative midfielders Yossi Benayoun and Mikel Arteta from Chelsea (on loan) and Everton (£10m or $16m) respectively.

Those new faces were a timely boost, but injuries mean Arsenal will be without Jack Wilshire and Thomas Vermaelen for the next few weeks at least, so the new players will need to hit the ground running. The Arsenal supporters reacted well to the signing of Arteta in particular, but a result at home is now of vital importance to the Londoners.

Swansea face an uphill task in downing the Arsenal colors, despite the talk of crisis at the Emirates stadium. The Swans have shipped 4 goals in 3 – but more worrying is the fact that they have not scored at all in 270 minutes of . That must change if they are to survive this season.

Everton v Aston Villa 2-2

Everton squeezed a win at Blackburn where lady luck looked on them very kindly. Rovers missed two penalties that afternoon, and Everton -who had created very little – were awarded a penalty of their own very late in the game to steal the points.

That goal is the only one they have managed thus far, and with creative influence Mikel Arteta leaving for Arsenal on deadline day, goals might be difficult to come by for the Toffees. Jermaine Beckford was also sold, reducing the options even further in attack.

Aston Villa meanwhile have started reasonably strongly, though two low-score draws might have been converted to wins, had they taken the chances created. Still undefeated, the Villians look likely to take something from this game, particularly with the home side having lost key personnel.

Manchester City v Wigan 3-0

The next team to try and stop the marauding Manchester City machine are Wigan Athletic. The Latics are undefeated, but they have taken on the three promoted teams in Norwich, QPR and Swansea – this test is much sterner.

City have blown away Swansea and Tottenham, winning each game by a 4 goal margin, and they also saw off Bolton 3-2. Back at the Etihad Stadium, the threat of Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero looks too much for Wigan despite their encouraging start to the season.

David Silva has been the star of the season so far, and the Blues have rattled up 12 goals in 3 games, and all this without Carlos Tevez who has had to make do with cameo appearances from the bench so far this term.

Roberto Martinez will set his team up to disrupt and stifle Manchester City, but it looks a forlorn hope for Wigan to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2011/12 season.

TOBIAS Prediction 1 Manchester City Win
CHRIS Prediction 1 Manchester City Win

Stoke v Liverpool 1-0

Stoke have backed up some very resilient performances with some impressive deadline day acquisitions. Wilson Palacios  and Peter Crouch have joined from Tottenham, and both look like they will suit the Stoke profile of hard working ‘team players’. Tony Pulis will be very pleased with his recent transfer business.

He will also be pleased with the start Stoke have made. One home fixture against Chelsea produced a hard fought draw, and then two away games resulted in a win at West Brom and another point at Norwich. They have conceded just one goal and that defensive strength makes the Potters a very hard team to beat.

Liverpool will see this as a test of their title credentials. The Brittania Stadium is a very hard place for away teams to get results and only the best sides in the country were able to secure wins there last term.

With two wins and a draw from their opening 3 fixtures, the Reds are full of confidence. They also snapped up Craig Bellamy on transfer deadline day, in addition to the highly rated Sebastian Coates – the towering Uruguay international is just 20, and joins fellow Copa America winner Luis Saurez at Anfield.

Sunderland v Chelsea 1-2

After Sunderland secured a good point at Anfield on the opening day of the season, their form has tailed off. Beaten at home by arch rivals Newcastle, the Black Cats them stuttered to a goalless draw at Swansea.

The short comings in front of goal will give Coach Steve Bruce much to think about. Sunderland spent a great deal of money in the Summer but the team has yet to show any improvement.

Chelsea have found a way of grinding out results despite not being at their best. Two home wins followed the away draw at Stoke, so the Blues sit among the leaders at the top of the table. New signing Juan Mata made a late impact when making his debut, and Coach Andre Villas-Boas will be keen to involve him from the start at Sunderland.

The Blues have quietly notched up wins, without creating too much fuss. While rival title challengers are rattling up goals, Chelsea have kept pace and still have plenty of room to improve.

TOBIAS Prediction 1 Chelsea win
CHRIS Prediction 1 Chelsea win

Wolverhampton v Tottenham 0-2

Wolves have made a bright start, but still had doubters to convince when they travelled to Aston Villa in their last match – again they were resilient and defensively strong, picking up a good point. At home against Tottenham, they are again likely to be seen as underdogs, but they merit a great deal of respect at home, and Coach Mick McCarthy deserves much credit for resolving the weaknesses in his side, while retaining the goal threat they have always had in the likes of Matt Jarvis and Kevin Doyle.
Tottenham secured the signature of Scott Parker on deadline day, but they lost Wilson Palacios and Peter Crouch to Stoke, as well as Alan Hutton and Jermaine Jenas to Aston Villa. Emmanuel Adebayor has joined on loan from Manchester City, to offer additional firepower upfront.
On top of those changes to the squad, Spurs have also lost Rafael Van Der Vart to injury for 6 weeks, which leaves a creative hole in the Tottenham midfield.
The North Londoners still boast a wealth of class players, with the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon offering plenty of width and attacking potential. This attacking intent is present in both teams, so the defences will come under a great deal of pressure. The side that can perform best in defence are likely to take the spoils in this one.
TOBIAS Prediction Over 2.5 Goals
CHRIS Prediction Over 2.5 Goals

Bolton v Manchester United 0-5

Manchester United have blasted 13 goals in three games, and star men Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney have continued their red hot form during the recent international fixtures too. A quiet finish to the transfer window was expected at Old Trafford and after the big spending in early August, there were no final day arrivals, despite rumours regarding numerous elite level players.
While the Champions offensive exploits have made most headlines, the young defence containing Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Johnny Evans has been quietly efficient. Much has been made of the lapses by new goalkeeper David De Gea, but the absence of veterans Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand has not been felt as badly as expected.
Bolton have shaken off their ‘gritty’ reputation and begun to play the open attacking that Coach Owen Coyle was famous for at previous club Burnley. It has however, led to an openness which has exposed them against the stronger sides in the division. Both Manchester City and Liverpool scored three goals against the Trotters and there will need to be a considerable defensive improvement if Bolton are to keep out the Red Devils.
TOBIAS Prediction Over 2.5 Goals
CHRIS Prediction 2 Manchester United to WIN

Norwich v West Bromwich 0-1

As ever in the Premier League, this fixture represents a huge game for both sides. West Brom would have been pleased with the way they competed against both Manchester United and Chelsea, but the home defeat against Stoke leaves them with zero points from 3 games, and it is imperative that a team such as West Brom do not lose too much ground to their rivals in the League table.
Norwich have performed with a good level of consistency, but only have two points to show for their endeavours. Home games against their rivals will be where Coach Paul Lambert expects his team to pick up points. The Canaries had already completed their summer business before the transfer deadline and those new faces, including Wales international Steve Morison must now settle quickly in order for Norwich to pick up wins.
TOBIAS Prediction Over 2.5
CHRIS Prediction X2 Draw or West Bromwich to WIN

Fulham v Blackburn 1-1

Fulham have already shown signs that the early start to their Europa League programme is taking its toll on a relatively small squad. The deadline day arrival of Bryan Ruiz was a big coup however – Ruiz was apparently influenced to sign for Fulham above his other suitors by the presence of Martin Jol. The Dutch manager is well known in his homeland, and Ruiz had been playing for FC Twente in Holland before this move.
Blackburn have suffered three defeats in their three games so far, the latest a relatively unlucky defeat to Everton after a very late penalty. Confidence will be ebbing away from Steve Kean’s side and they desperately need a result soon.
Scott Dann has arrived from Birmingham City and Chris Samba is returning to full fitness. These two should see the defensive performance improve from Rovers. Yakubu  has also joined after spending time on loan in the Championship but it remains to be seen if he still has the class to be effective in the Premier League.
Fulham have just one point from their home draw with Aston Villa, but after the international  break, the Cottagers will at least have had two weeks respite from what has been an exhausting campaign for them thus far. The rest is likely to do them good.

QPR v Newcastle 0-0

The Monday Night game sees Queens Park Rangers take on Newcastle United. Newcastle lost Joey Barton to Rangers late in the transfer window, so the outspoken midfielder will go up against the team he openly criticised – if he is selected.
The Toon Army will be very pleased with their return of 7 points from three games, including a win over North East rivals Sunderland in their own back yard. That form has kept the fans onside, despite some anger with the club owners over perceived mismanagement. The club were keen to sign a striker but their efforts to sign Bryan Ruiz were ultimately frustrated when he decided to go to Fulham instead. That left Newcastle without the goal scoring player they were looking for, so they must now rely on the likes of Shola Ameobi and Leon Best.
Queens Park Rangers have been very active in the transfer market since the takeover of the club was finally completed. In addition to Joey Barton, The West Londoners have also signed Shaun Wright-Phillips from Manchester City, winger Jason Puncheon on loan, Anton Ferdinand from Sunderland and full-back Luke Young from Aston Villa.
These signings will definitely strengthen the Rangers squad over time, and Coach Neil Warnock will be working tirelessly to ensure they gel as quickly as possible.
