When Real Madrid signed Kaka, 29, from AC Milan, their was a sigh of relief amongst the Madrid faithful. To them his was a sign that Barcelona domination will be put on a hold. By all accounts, Kaka is a gifted footballer, a player that every team wants to have in their fold. Unfortunately, in the Madrid shirt in his first season, he was a pale shadow of his former self. The sleek moves, pace, dribbling ability and an eye for goal appeared to have escaped him. This sudden lose in form caused a lot of jitters which some even suggesting that he be sold back to Milan where he was not only on top of his game but also on top of the opposition.
To be fair to the 2007 world player of the year, he has suffered from injuries. These injuries appear to have knocked off his confidence. Many soccer fans in Madrid, and through -out the world were left to wonder when will Kaka, the talisman they knew will return to his former self. If the performance on Tuesday night against Ajax was anything to go by, then Kaka is surely on his way back to the magician he was. The Bernabeu faithful are one of the most impatient spectators in the world their appetite for success is only rivaled by Barcelona fans. When Kaka was substituted, he was given a standing ovation. This by all accounts is a show of confidence, and it will surely act as a boost to his and the team confidence.
Improvement in each game
An analysis of Kaka games playing for Madrid shows that his game is heading in the positive direction with each match he plays. He is not individualistic, and his game stresses more on team play rather than individual glory. He showed glimpses of his former self in the preseason tour of the United states and Asia, Real Madrid league opener 6-0 against Real Zaragoza where he scored the fifth goal is a case in point.
Realignment in the starting line up
The re-emergence of Kaka means that someone has to take his place on the bench. A recent poll done by Marca.com found out that 77% of Real Madrid fans want to see him take his place in the starting eleven, if he show consistency. Di Maria is the likely culprit. His game of late has been far from impressive. Cassilas has however, advised him to stay focused in his game and avoid being carried over. In a post-match conference, he said,
“That Kaka is a great player is not in doubt, he should stay focused on his game and aim to improve on each game. If he slips again, the press will criticize him as they have done before.”
A more ambitious Madrid
Great players inspire confidence, their wit and skills in most situations is what wins matches. They only need a moment to produce their magic, and the last nail will be hit in the opposition team. That Real Madrid lineup is full of accomplished players is not debatable, last season Kaka was the missing link, if he regain his previous form, Real Madrid will be almost unstoppable.
