U.S. Futsal Falls to Belgium in Grand Prix

The U.S. Futsal National Team fell to Belgium 4-1 in the Futsal Grand Prix in Manaus, Brazil on Oct. 21, 2011.

MANAUS, Brazil (Oct. 22 2011) The U.S. Futsal National Team fell to Belgium 4-1 in the Futsal Grand Prix last night in Manaus, Brazil.

After going into halftime down 2-0, the U.S. put up a spirited fight in the second half. Henrique Pinto’s first goal of the tournament in the 32nd minute set up a frantic finish in Brazil, with Belgium eventually grabbing a late goal to seal the game at 4-1.

The U.S. and Belgium met in group play of the tournament, contesting another close match on Oct. 18. In that game the USA was downed 10-7 and again they came up just short against a tough Belgian side.

Though the U.S is no longer competing in the championship bracket of the
invitational tournament, the men continue to play in consolation
round matches with the bottom two teams from each of the four groups.
The U.S. will next face CONCACAF rival Costa Rica at 2 p.m. ET
