LEVERKUSEN, Germany (Nov. 15, 2011) – The U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team wrapped up its first camp of the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup cycle on Tuesday, falling 3-0 to Bayer Leverkusen in a scrimmage. The team was together for 10 days in Duisburg, Germany, with U-20 Men’s National Team Head Coach Tab Ramos leading the team during their first extended period of time together.

“I think it’s been a tremendous camp,” said Ramos. “For the younger players it’s been a great experience to at least get a peek of where we need to be moving forward. We made good progress and I’m happy with that.”

After a scoreless first half the young U-20s were unfortunate to come out on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline. Offensively the team generated numerous chances, testing the Leverkusen goalkeeper consistently and string together fine attacking moves to cause danger in the final third.

But Leverkusen’s quality on the break was telling and ultimately the U.S. will take this as a learning experience to draw upon during the next few years.

“Overall I think the players made a good effort, said Ramos. “The second half was a half where we matched them offensively but were caught a couple of times in transition on the counter where they scored. I’m happy with the effort though.”

The U-20s are at the beginning of their World Cup cycle ahead of the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which takes place in Turkey.
