UPDATE April 1, 2011

The sales of tickets for the UEFA European Football Championship taking place in Poland and Ukraine between 8 June and 1 July 2012 closed on 31 March with an impressive total of 12,149,425 ticket requests made by fans worldwide. This sets an all-time record for the UEFA European Football Championship and represents an increase of more than 17% from UEFA EURO 2008.

With applications from no less than 206 countries worldwide, the demand for the various types of tickets available for UEFA EURO 2012 has exceeded supply for all matches of the final tournament. This means that lotteries will be carried out in order to allocate tickets. These lotteries will be made by UEFA under notary supervision between 19 and 22 April and successful applicants will be informed via e-mail before the end of April.

Polish and Ukrainian citizens have shown huge interest in purchasing tickets, to such an extent that nearly 88% of the overall requests have originated from the host nations. Amongst countries with high application numbers, Germany – with 2.82%, Russia – with 1.16%, and Switzerland – with 1.00%, reflect the strong desire of their fans to attend UEFA EURO 2012 in Ukraine and Poland.

The tremendous success of the ticket sales, proves the huge interest of football supporters towards UEFA EURO 2012, and clearly shows that the event is eagerly-awaited not only in the two host nations, but also all around the globe and that millions of fans are looking forward to a three-week festive celebration of the best European national teams’ football has to offer in the summer of 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.

The sales of tickets for the UEFA EURO 2012 started on March 1, with simultaneous ceremonies held in Warsaw and Kyiv to mark the day.

Direct sales of tickets for UEFA EURO 2012 will be made via UEFA.com exclusively as from 1 March and until 31 March. During this month, everyone will have an equal chance to buy tickets, irrespective of when the application is made. Once the application period is closed, there will be a lottery to determine successful applicants for all those matches which have been oversubscribed.

A total of 1.4 million tickets will be made available for the final tournament of the UEFA European Football Championship 2012 and around 85% will end up in the hands of fans, either through UEFA’s official website, via the national associations of the 16 participating teams or via competitions organised by sponsors of the competition. The remaining tickets will be allocated to non-participating member associations, to other members of the football family such as confederations, clubs, referees and other officials, to host governments and the host cities, to VIP guests, as well as for the corporate hospitality programme.

There are several types of tickets available:

• Individual Match Tickets: for single matches;
• Follow My Team: to follow a specific team during the group-phase or the whole tournament;
• Venue Series: to attend all matches played in a specific stadium, be it for the group-stage or for the knockout stage only.

By offering this new type of ticket – called Venue Series – UEFA wishes to give the opportunity to people living in the vicinity of any of the host cities to attend all matches taking place on their door-step.

Finally, disabled persons have not been forgotten, and they will have the option to buy tickets for themselves and for an accompanying person.

Further details on the type of tickets available can be found in the ticketing section of UEFA.com.
