MLS Wednesday Pick and Predictions
Wednesday started on positive note with predicted just 2 goals at Red Bull Arena, and turns out to be controversial but Chicago Fire 2-1 win. I am happy for Columbus Crew and their 2-0 win in Seattle, even they damaged my record to 2–2 in my MLS Predictions. What a roller coster in Los Angeles, Galaxy from leading 2-0, managed to loose to the San Jose Earthquakes 2-3.
I finished 11th week of my MLS Predictions with even record 5–5 .
My record in 2012 MLS season 64–47 (accuracy 58.00 %).
Predictions for midweek and weekend are usually published here 16-24 hours before the game time.
Wednesday, May 23
High-low split: New York has had the most productive offense in all of MLS this year, netting 25 goals through 12 matches thus far. Chivas USA has had trouble tucking the ball home, scoring the least amount of goals league-wide (tied) with just seven.
Red Bull gives you wings: The New York Red Bulls have matched a club record with their fifth consecutive victory, Saturday’s 2-1 win at Montréal. They won five in a row three times previously, last in 2003.
Clever Cooper: With his third goal in as many games – all with Thierry Henry out of the lineup – Red Bulls striker Kenny Cooper now has 10 for the season, one behind MLS Golden Boot leader Chris Wondolowski (San Jose).
Home Depot despair: The only meeting between the teams this year will be in Harrison. Good thing: the Red Bulls have not won at The Home Depot Center against Chivas USA since 2005. Chivas USA have won two of the six home meetings since, with four draws.
CHRIS’ PREDICTION UNDER 2.5 goals
Woe is FCD: FC Dallas saw their winless streak extended to seven games in the 1-1 draw with Philadelphia last weekend, the club’s longest in five seasons. The FCD club record is 10 games without a win, set in 2005.
Fruitless Fire: The Fire have also never defeated FC Dallas at Toyota Park. FC Dallas have won on five of their six trips to Bridgeview, including a 2-1 win last Oct. 12, with one draw. The Fire’s last home win against Dallas came in 2005, a 2-0 victory at Soldier Field.
CHRIS’ PREDICTION 1 Chicago Fire to WIN
Successful Schmid: Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid has never lost to his former club while with Seattle; Sounders FC have won four of the clubs’ seven meetings all-time in all competitions, with three draws, including a victory in the 2010 U.S. Open Cup Final.
Dynamic duo: Eddie Johnson and Fredy Montero continued their recent prolific partnership, each scoring in Sounders FC’s 2-2 draw in Vancouver. The pair have combined for seven goals (Montero 4, Johnson 3) over the past six games.
One for the record books: Sounders FC set a club record in last year’s 6-2 win vs. Columbus, scoring four goals in the first half and the most goals in a game in the club’s MLS history. It was also the match in which Crew forward Jeff Cunningham became the all-time leader in goals in MLS history.
CHRIS’ PREDICTION 1 Sounders to WIN
Late-in-the-game greatness: San Jose has scored five goals in the 88th minute or later, with 12 of the club’s 23 goals on the season coming after the 60th minute.
Wins at LA elusive: The Quakes have not defeated the Galaxy at The Home Depot Center since 2005. Since San Jose returned to the league in 2008, the Galaxy have won three of the four meetings at home, with one draw.
Gordon, the go-to: For a second consecutive match, Alan Gordon provided late dramatics, with his 90th-minute goal giving San Jose a 1-1 draw against Columbus last weekend. Since being acquired from Toronto FC last July, all four of Gordon’s goals with San Jose have come after the 70th minute.
CHRIS’ PREDICTION UNDER 2.5 goals
