Saturday, September 15

Toronto FC vs. Philadelphia Union 1-1

Toronto FC did not looked good against Chicago Fire on Wednesday, and they could be little tired after midweek game. Union are very defensive team, and their agenda going to Toronto will be not to loose the game. I don’t believe we will see more than 2 goals at BMO field today.

Portland Timbers vs. Seattle Sounders FC 1-1

Emerald City Pioneer: Eddie Johnson’s brace on Saturday brought his goals-scored total to 13 for Seattle, setting a single-season franchise record in the process.

Cascadia Chronicles: Portland’s June 24 win was the first for the Timbers in three all-time meetings with Sounders FC in MLS. The rivalry between the cities in soccer began in 1975; overall, the clubs have met 77 times in official competitions, Seattle winning 40 times, Portland winning 28, and 9 draws.

Sounders are at least a class better than Timbers now and we should see the difference on the field. Despite from all the derby atmosphere, Seattle team are my favorites here, but just in case you can to support their win with a draw.

New York Red Bulls vs. Columbus Crew 3-1

Crew’s Compilation: The Crew saw their four-game winning streak – the club’s longest in two years – put to an end in a 2-0 loss at New England last Wednesday.

Goals Go Through Higuaín: Despite playing only six games this season, Columbus’ Federico Higuaín has six assists, twice as many as any other teammate.

This could be the best game of the weekend, and the Crew team are not going to New York to see Empire State Building but to get points. True, the Crew lost their last game to Revolution but it was their 7th game in 21 days stretch. This time at Red Bull Arena they going to be fresh and ready, which should make the show even better. I think that visitors will leave the building with at least a point, but we should see some goals there so over makes more sense to me.

D.C. United vs. New England Revolution 2-1

Club and Country: Two players from these clubs scored goals for their national sides over the weekend. United’s Dwayne De Rosario scored for Canada in a 1-0 victory over Panama, while the Revs’ Jerry Bengtson notched the opener for Honduras in a 3-0 win against Cuba. Two other MLSers, Victor Bernárdez and Marvin Chávez, also struck net for Honduras.

Revs Ready to Roll: The Revolution put an end to their club-record 10-game winless skid in a 2-0 win vs. Columbus last Wednesday at Gillette Stadium.

Due to injury United loss their leader and last season MLS best player Dwayne De Rosario. Many of you may expect high scoring game at RFK Stadium, but I think United defensive line will step up this time and should be able to handle all the Revolution attacking options. 1-0 United if I have to pick the score

Chicago Fire vs. Montreal Impact 3-1

Montreal Meet-Cute: The teams are meeting for the second time. They opened the season against each, reaching a 1-1 draw March 17 at Olympic Stadium in Montréal before a crowd of 58,912.

Attacking Alex: Making his 10th appearance for the Fire, Designated Player Alex opened his MLS goalscoring account in the 3-1 win vs. Houston on Sept. 2, capping the 3-1 victory.

On a Roll: Montreal’s Marco Di Vaio has the longest active goal-scoring streak in MLS, having found the back of the net in three straight games.

Big game at Toyota Park, Impact still has mathematic chances for playoffs and Chicago Fire just playing better and better. I will not pick the winner here and I am afraid that fans will not see as many goals.

FC Dallas vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 1-0

No Strangers: This matchup pits FC Dallas’ American international Brek Shea against Vancouver’s Jamaican internationals Darren Mattocks and Dane Richards for the third time in less than 10 days, after their respective countries played twice in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying.

Vulnerable Vancouver: Whitecaps FC have lost four games in a row after their 2-0 defeat at the LA Galaxy on Sept. 2. It matches the club’s longest losing streak in its two MLS seasons.

This is very important match for FC Dallas, if they seriously thinking about making playoffs this year they really have to win on Saturday and believe they will find a way to score one more than opponent.

Chivas USA vs. San Jose Earthquakes 0-2

Playoff-Bound: Over the weekend, the Quakes became the first team to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs after Chivas USA lost 2-1 at Seattle. San Jose leads the race for the MLS Supporters’ Shield by three points ahead of Sporting KC.

Corrales Corralling in Goals: The league’s last player standing who participated in the inaugural season of MLS – San Jose’s Ramiro Corrales – recorded three assists in a game for the first time in his career Aug. 25 vs. Colorado. Last weekend he had his first career two-goal game in the win vs. Chivas, both directly from free kicks.

A Fraction of the Fun: Chivas USA have scored eight goals at home, less than half of San Jose’s 20 on the road.

The rested Earthquakes will visit Home Depot Center for really meaningless game. San Jose team is proud and happy, because as first club in MLS clinched playoffs, but I don’t think they will stop scoring goals. One of fastest player in MLS Marvin Chavez has some hamstring problems and unlikely we will see him on the pitch, but regardless of his absence goals in this game are almost guarantee.

Friday, September 14

Sporting Kansas City vs. Houston Dynamo 1-1

Very interesting matchup because both teams are in the playoffs zone as of now, but in order to stay that high in the table they need points. The Dynamo will miss suspended forward Calen Carr, but they acquired ex West Bromwich Albion and Doncaster Rovers – 24 years old English midfielder Giles Barnes.  He probably will not start, but he got his work permit and there is a chance we can see him from the bench. Since departure of Geoff Cameron Dynamo defensive game changed and although they reminded as very low scoring team, they are not as solid as they used to be. Sporting Coach Peter Vermes realize importance of this win, before facing New York Red Bulls and Montreal Impact on the road.  Sporting team will need comfort before going on the road, and supported by their enthusiastic crowd should be able to take full home field advantage and win.

Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear will be absent on the bench serving one game suspension. Both goalkeepers, Houston’s Tally Hall and Sporting Kansas City’s Jimmy Nielsen are tied with an MLS-best 11 shutouts this season, plus both teams with very solid back lines, telling us that we should not expect many goals in KC.

Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Colorado Rapids 2-0

OK, lets be honest, Rapids last win over Timbers has nothing to do with any improvements in their game. They just played weak Portland team at home, so they won, but tonight at Home Depot Center they will need some miracle to escape with a point. Returning Landon Donovan and Galaxy offensive power will be just too much for inconsistent Rapids team. Home team should not have problem cashing 3 points on Friday night.

Wednesday, September 12

Toronto FC vs. Chicago Fire 1-2

Nyarko’s Knack for Net: Patrick Nyarko’s first goal since June 17 gave the Fire a 3-1 win against Houston on Sept. 2, their fourth victory in their last five games.

Seeing Red: Toronto FC saw their winless streak extended to seven games in their last match, a 2-1 loss at Sporting Kansas City on Sept. 1.

Halftime Hoops: Chicago have allowed nine goals in the 15 minutes before halftime, tied for the most in the League, while Toronto have allowed nine in the fifteen minutes after halftime, which is the most of any team.

Toronto FC team with nothing to loose attitude likely will score a goal, and I believe Chicago Fire is able to score as well. Midweek games are not often high scoring but this time both teams should be fresh and defensive errors by TFC defence are almost guarantee in this match. I am expecting goals at BMO Field tonight.
