CHICAGO (March 7, 2013) – U.S. goalkeeper Jill Loyden suffered a broken bone in her left hand during training on March 7 at the Algarve Cup in Portugal and
will be out of action for up to three months.

Loyden suffered spiral fracture of 4th metacarpal and will leave Portugal tomorrow to consult with a hand specialist to determine if she will need surgery.
She broke a different bone in the same hand during U.S. training camp in January of 2011.

“It’s certainly unfortunate, but I’ve already overcome this injury before so I have no doubt it will heal and I’ll be able to join the U.S. team again
soon,” said Loyden. “I know that the other goalkeepers will step up because they are phenomenal players.”

With long-time starter Hope Solo out with a wrist injury, the USA’s two other goalkeepers on the Algarve Cup roster – Nicole Barnhart and Ashlyn Harris –
will be available for selection for the remaining three games of the tournament. Loyden had just played the full 90 minutes in goal the tournament’s
opening game against Iceland yesterday, recording a shutout.

Loyden was allocated to Sky Blue FC of the new National Women’s Soccer League, which begins play in April, but will likely miss at least half of the NWSL
season.

“I’m going to be working hard to try to get back for as much of the NWSL season as possible,” said Loyden. “In the meantime, I’ll be supporting my
teammates for club and country and doing my best to get totally healthy and ready to play.”
