Saturday, July 27

Toronto FC vs. Columbus Crew, 2 p.m. (TSN)

The teams are playing for the second time this season. Dominic Oduro’s first-half goal gave the Crew a 1-0 victory May 18 at BMO Field.
In 17 all-time meetings between the teams, Toronto FC have won just once — a 4-2 win Sept. 10, 2011 at Columbus Crew Stadium. The Crew have never lost at BMO Field, winning on each of their last two visits.
Toronto FC suffered a third consecutive shutout last weekend in a scoreless draw with the New York Red Bulls, which extended their current winless run to six games.
It’s now been more than a year since Toronto FC won at BMO Field. Their only home victory since last July 18, when they defeated Colorado 2-1, came on March 9 of this year – a 2-1 win against Sporting Kansas City at Rogers Centre.
The Crew lost for the fifth time in the last seven games in their 2-0 defeat by New England at Crew Stadium, their fourth loss in 10 home games this season.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: CREW to WIN

Montreal Impact vs. Sporting Kansas City, 7 p.m. (TSN2, RDS)

Soony Saad scored his third goal over the last two games as Sporting won their third in a row and extended their unbeaten run to six games in their 2-1 come-from-behind win at Real Salt Lake.
The Impact saw their winless streak reach five games, shut out at the offensive end for the first time this year in back-to-back games following their scoreless draw with FC Dallas at Stade Saputo.
The teams are meeting for the third time this season. Goals from Sanna Nyassi and Collen Warner early in the second half propelled the Impact to a 2-1 victory, June 1 at Sporting Park. Sporting won 2-0 at home on March 30 on goals from Claudio Bieler and Graham Zusi.
Sporting have come away with points on their two trips to Montréal, recording a victory on their visit before the teams played to a scoreless draw, both in the Impact’s inaugural MLS season.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Draw

New York Red Bulls vs. Real Salt Lake, 7 p.m.

Real Salt Lake had their eight-game undefeated streak put to an end in a 2-1 home loss to Sporting Kansas City over the weekend, their first defeat since May 11.
The Red Bulls haven’t allowed a goal in their last two home games, the last a 4-0 win against the Montréal Impact on July 13. They have not scored a goal in their last three road games, after the scoreless draw with Toronto FC at BMO Field last weekend.
Real Salt Lake have a six-game undefeated streak alive in the series between the teams, including three consecutive wins. The last Red Bulls victory came April 18, 2009, at the old Giants Stadium.
RSL has never lost to New York at home in regular season play. Real have won the last four meetings at Rio Tinto Stadium; they have four wins in eight meetings all-time, with four draws.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

Vancouver Whitecaps FC vs. Philadelphia Union, 7 p.m. (UDN)

Camilo Sanvezzo maintained his leadership atop the MLS Golden Boot standings with his 13th goal of the season in Whitecaps FC’s 2-1 loss to the LA Galaxy last weekend. Sanvezzo has standingsored 10 goals in the last eight games.
Whitecaps FC saw their six-game undefeated run come to an end in the loss to the Galaxy, the longest unbeaten streak in the club’s MLS history.
Philadelphia Union saw their home undefeated streak extended to six games in a scoreless draw with the Portland Timbers over the weekend.
The teams have evenly split their three meetings all-time. Each team won 1-0 at home in Whitecaps FC’s inaugural season of 2011; the teams reached a scoreless draw last year at PPL Park.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: WhiteCaps to WIN

Colorado Rapids vs. LA Galaxy, 7 p.m. (ESPN2)

The Galaxy got goals from a pair of Homegrown Players for the first time as Jose Villarreal and Gyasi Zardes both scored to lead the club back to a 2-1 victory against Vancouver on Saturday.
The Rapids extended their undefeated run to five games with their first-ever point in Seattle, reaching a 1-1 draw Saturday with Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season. A Mike Magee penalty kick in the 50th minute was all the Galaxy needed for a 1-0 victory March 23 in Carson.
The Galaxy are undefeated against the Rapids over the last two-plus seasons. The Rapids last defeated the Galaxy at home in 2008. In the five meetings since at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, LA has won three, with two draws.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Rapids to WIN

D.C. United vs. New England Revolution, 7 p.m.

D.C. United scored their first goal from open play in nine league games, since May 19, when Luis Silva scored from long range Saturday at the Chicago Fire. But it wasn’t enough to see United suffer their 14th defeat in 20 league games in a 4-1 loss.
José Gonçalves scored his first MLS goal, one of two Revolution goals in stoppage time as they claimed a 2-0 victory Saturday at Columbus.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season. They reached a scoreless draw June 8 at Gillette Stadium.
United have a four-game undefeated streak alive vs. the Revolution, winning all three meetings between the teams last season.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: 2 Revolution to WIN

Houston Dynamo vs. Chicago Fire, 9 p.m. (NBCSN)

Adam Moffat scored his first career MLS two-goal game – both stunning strikes from long distance – to give the Dynamo a 2-1 win at New England in their last match on July 13. It was the second consecutive victory for Houston, following a seven-game winless run.
Making his first start in four matches, Joel Lindpere scored his first league goal with the Fire and added a pair of assists in a 4-1 home win against D.C. United that snapped a two-game losing skid.
Mike Magee kept pace in the MLS Golden Boot standings with his 12th goal of the season – one behind Vancouver’s Camilo – and his seventh in eight league games since coming to the Fire.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season. A late Brad Davis goal snapped a 1-1 tie to give the Dynamo the victory, April 14 at BBVA Compass Stadium.
In league play, the Dynamo last won in Bridgeview in 2009. The Fire won at Robertson Stadium in 2006 and 2007 in their first two trips ever to Houston – and have not won there since.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: 1 Dynamo to WIN

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Portland Timbers, 10:30 p.m.

The Earthquakes return to action following a weekend off, after Walter Martínez scored his first MLS goal to give the club a 1-0 home win vs. Seattle Sounders FC on July 13, ending a two-game winless run.
The Timbers recorded an eighth draw in 11 away matches last weekend, ending in a scoreless result with Philadelphia Union at PPL Park. It was their third scoreless draw on the road this season.
The teams are meeting for the third time this season. They met earlier on back-to-back weekends, a Will Johnson goal giving the Timbers a 1-0 home won on April 14, then the teams reached a 1-1 draw April 21 at Buck Shaw Stadium when San Jose’s Adam Jahn scored the equalizer in stoppage time.
The teams are undefeated at home in the all-time league series. The Timbers have won two of four matches in Portland, with two draws, while all three encounters at Buck Shaw Stadium have ended in draws.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: DRAW

Sunday, July 28

Seattle Sounders FC vs. Chivas USA, 11 p.m. (UDN)

Chivas USA put an end to their winless streak at 14 games – one shy of the club record and matching the longest contained in a single season in MLS history – as Erick Torres scored the game’s only goal in his MLS debut for a victory against Toronto FC on July 17 at StubHub Center.
Homegrown Player DeAndre Yedlin scored his first MLS goal, but Sounders FC saw their winless run stretched to three games in a 1-1 home draw with Colorado last weekend.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season. An Obafemi Martins goal and an own goal, in the first half, led Sounders FC to a 2-0 win June 1 in Carson.
Sounders FC are unbeaten in their last nine meetings with Chivas USA, since Chivas won the first two meetings ever between the clubs in 2009. Seattle has won five times with four draws.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: 1 Sounders to WIN
