Wednesday, October 9

Houston Dynamo vs Sporting Kansas City 0-0

The Dynamo have gotten hot at the right time of the season, now with a four-game undefeated streak, one short of their season-long (set April 14-May 8). After their last loss, a 4-1 defeat vs. New York on Sept. 8 that ended a four-game winless run, the Dynamo were outside the top five in the Eastern Conference.
Center back Ike Opara matched his career-high with his third goal this season as Sporting KC won for the fourth time in the last five matches, defeating Columbus 1-0 on Saturday to move to the verge of clinching a playoff spot.
The teams are meeting for the third time this season. Aurélien Collin’s header in the 73rd minute was the only goal of the game as Sporting put an end to the Dynamo’s 30-game league home undefeated streak on May 12 at BBVA Compass Stadium; two weeks later, SKC’s Kei Kamara and Houston’s Brad Davis traded goals to leave the teams in a 1-1 draw at Sporting Park.
The Sporting win in the first meeting was the first victory for the road team in the series since 2009, and Sporting’s second win ever in Houston. The last three league meetings at Sporting Park have ended in draws.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: DRAW
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: UNDER 2.5 goals

Seattle Sounders FC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 1-4

Sounders FC matched the heaviest defeat in the club’s MLS history when they lost 5-1 to the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Seattle lost 4-0 to the LA Galaxy on May 26 of this year.
Camilo Sanvezzo scored two goals in a game for the second time in the last three matches, including a stunning flying side volley, to bring Whitecaps FC back for a 2-2 draw with Portland on Sunday evening. Camilo has scored the last four Vancouver goals; he now has five 2-goal games and is tied for the league lead in multi-goal games. He is second in the MLS Golden Boot standings with 18 goals.
The teams are meeting for the third time this season. Darren Mattocks and Kenny Miller scored to give Whitecaps FC a 2-0 victory on July 6 at BC Place; less than a month earlier, Lamar Neagle’s late goal capped a comeback and gave Sounders FC a 3-2 victory before a crowd of better than 53,000 at CenturyLink Field.
The Vancouver victory in the last meeting was their first ever against their Cascadia rivals to the south since coming to MLS. Sounders FC had won three of the first six meetings, with three draws.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: DRAW
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: UNDER 2.5 goals

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Colorado Rapids 1-0

When Deshorn Brown scored after 15 seconds of Colorado’s 5-1 home defeat of Seattle on Saturday evening, it was the second-quickest goal ever scored in MLS history. Dwayne De Rosario scored after 11 seconds for San Jose on Sept. 27, 2003; the previous second-fastest was also scored by the Rapids, Conor Casey scoring after 16 seconds on April 4, 2009.
The Earthquakes return to action after a week off, Chris Wondolowski netting his first goal since Aug. 18 for the only marker in a 1-0 victory vs. Chivas USA on Sept. 29 at StubHub Center.
The teams are meeting for the third time this season. Sam Cronin’s second-half goal gave the Earthquakes a 2-1 victory June 15 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Mark Watson’s first game in charge of the club. The teams played to a 1-1 draw May 18 at Buck Shaw Stadium, when Marvín Chavez scored in the 78th minute for San Jose, answering a first-half Rapids goal from Nathan Sturgis.
The Rapids last defeated San Jose in the first meeting in the 2011 season. The Quakes have won four of the six meetings since, with two draws, including all three matches last season.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: 1 Earthquakes WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: UNDER 2.5 goals
