MLS Wednesday Preview, Picks and Predictions

Three MLS matches on Wednesday, starting 10th week of the year, and this is going to be one of the busiest 7 days in regular season.
The Sounders facing FC Dallas in Seattle, and this Western Conference clash could be not only game of the day, but also of the week. Obviously, some offensive fireworks are expected there.
In other two games goals likely to come as premium, and low scoring draws are very possible in Houston and San Jose.
The Sounders win, and more then 2 goals in their game, are my main prediction for this Wednesday.

Keep in mind I’m not even 40 % in my accuracy this season, but I have been their before. I’m not blaming my self for my predictions, but the players, and sometimes referees, most of the time is their fault.:)

However, despite poor start of the campaign, I’m confident trough the season, I should be able to get back to over 50%.

Current Week 10 record 51 (accuracy 83.33 % )

Last Week 9 record 810 (accuracy 44.44 % )

2014 MLS Predictions record 6294 (accuracy 39.74 % )

Picks and predictions are usually published here at least 1-2 hours before the game time.

Wednesday, May 7

Houston Dynamo vs. Columbus Crew 1-0

The Dynamo put an end to their six-game winless run in emphatic fashion with a 4-1 win at Chivas USA on Saturday evening. It was their second four-goal output this year (high in MLS), after recording a 4-0 win against New England in the season opener.
The Crew saw their winless streak reach five games after a trio of victories to open the season, following their 2-0 loss at Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.
The teams met once last season at BBVA Compass Stadium, a 3-1 Dynamo win on Aug. 3. It was the Dynamo’s first win against the Crew in almost exactly five years, since Aug. 2, 2008. The victory snapped a nine-game Crew undefeated streak vs. Houston.
The Dynamo have also won just twice all-time in Houston in eight matches vs. Columbus; the teams have played to five draws in Houston.

The Dynamo have Brad Davis back, and that’s huge for them, but rest of the squad in not able to have two good games in the row within 5 days, so I wont count on them.
The Crew on the other hand, are all about defense and Federico Higuain, who often is just alone out there. Both coaches will focus on defense in this match, and under seem to be good pick, but I will also ad draw.

Seattle Sounders FC vs. FC Dallas 2-1

Sounders FC won their fourth consecutive match, a come-from-behind 2-1 win against Philadelphia Union on Saturday evening. The winning streak is one short of the club’s MLS record, set previously on three occasions, including last year from Aug. 25-Sept. 13.
FC Dallas were shut out for the first time this season in a second consecutive loss, falling 1-0 at home to the New York Red Bulls on Sunday afternoon. The loss leaves Seattle Sounders FC as the only team to have scored a goal in every MLS game thus far this season.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Clint Dempsey scored a pair of goals, his second in the 85th minute capping a second-half comeback to give Sounders FC a 3-2 win on April 12 at Toyota Stadium, the first FC Dallas defeat of the season.
Sounders FC have won their last three home meetings with FC Dallas. The lone FCD victory all-time at CenturyLink Field came May 25, 2011, a 1-0 win.

On the paper looked like Sounders had some issues with Philadelphia Union last Saturday, but that could be misleading. The Sounders had so much confidence, they even let Osvaldo Alonso to take the penalty kick, only because…his wife was pregnant. He did not scored because Zac MacMath saved, but the game was far from close. The Sounders will loose Clint Dempsey and Brad Evans likely headed to the USMNT camp in a couple of weeks, and they will look to add some cushion in the standings prior their departure. FC Dallas had great start of the season, but they have some injuries and red card absence, and shouldn’t be able to fire on all cylinders. The Sounders are my heavy favorites to win, and likely we should see more than 2 goals in the game.

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Colorado Rapids 0-0

Chris Wondolowski scored a pair of goals in the Earthquakes’ 3-2 loss at Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday afternoon, the 14th multiple-goal game of his career, moving him into a tie for eighth place in the all-time MLS leaders list in the category. Final score does not really give as the full picture. The Whitecaps in the first 20 minutes of the game, scored 3 goals, and should of score 2 more. Later they tried to manage the game, and their lead was not in danger at all.
Vicente Sánchez scored his first goal since March 29 – when he started the season with four goals in three matches – to lead the Rapids to a 1-0 win against the LA Galaxy on Saturday evening at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season, having reached a scoreless draw on April 19 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The Rapids last defeated San Jose in the first meeting in the 2011 season. The Quakes have won five of the eight meetings since, with three draws, including the last three matches.

The Earthquakes will do what they can to win, but their resources, are seriously limited. Injury of their best (next to Chris Wondolowski) offensive player Yannick Djalo, puts tons of pressure on coach Mark Watson. The Rapids, are confident especially after win over LA Galaxy on Saturday. Except Chris Wondolowski, the Earthquakes both key centerbacks are World Cup hopes. Clarence Goodson for USMNT, and Victor Bernardez for Honduras, they expected to have solid game in SJ. The Rapids defense is rock solid, and this could be one mistake game, can go 0-1, or 1-0, as well as 0-0, or 1-1, but any different score should be taken as surprise.
