MLS Week 12 Preview, Picks and Predictions

MLS Picks and Predictions
The week 12th of my MLS Predictions, starts this Wednesday with two very interesting matches. In Washington, having high aspirations D.C. United host red hot lately Houston Dynamo, and in late evening clash hungry for points LA Galaxy, facing always entertaining FC Dallas.

Draws are very possible in both matches, but I like FC Dallas as winner, and total more than two goals at Stubhub Center.

List of 15 MLS players participating in USMNT 2014 FIFA World Cup preparation camp: Columbus Crew’s Michael Parkhurst; Houston Dynamo’s Brad Davis; Sporting Kansas City’s Graham Zusi and Matt Besler; LA Galaxy’s Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez; Philadelphia Union’s Maurice Edu; Real Salt Lake’s Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando; San Jose Earthquake’s Clarence Goodson and Chris Wondolowski; Seattle Sounders FC’s Clint Dempsey, Brad Evans and DeAndre Yedlin; and Toronto FC’s Michael Bradley.

Keep in mind I’m not even 41 % in my accuracy this season, but I have been their before. I’m not blaming my self for my predictions, but the players, and sometimes referees, most of the time is their fault.:)

However, despite poor start of the campaign, I’m confident trough the season, I should be able to get back to over 50%, but obvious goal is to cross 54% as earlier as possible.

Current Week 12 record 1110 (accuracy 52.38 % )

Last Week 11 record 1012 (accuracy 45.45 % )

2014 MLS Predictions record 89127 (accuracy 41.20 % )

Picks and predictions are usually published here at least 1-2 hours before the game time.

LA Galaxy vs. Philadelphia Union, 8 p.m.

Union won in the last meeting between the teams in Carson, a 2-1 victory July 4, 2012.
After putting an end to their club-record nine-game winless run at midweek, Union dropped a 5-3 decision to the New England Revolution at PPL Park – scoring a season-high three goals.
The game against Union is the second at StubHub Center in the week for the Galaxy, following a four-game road swing where they went 0-2-2.
The Galaxy beat defeated FC Dallas 2-1 last Wednesday, but against Union Landon Donovan is expected to play.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Galaxy to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Houston Dynamo 3-0

The Quakes dropped just their second game since the start of April, falling 1-0 at Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday afternoon.
Giles Barnes scored his third goal in the last four games as the Dynamo concluded their three-game homestand over the weekend in the 1-0 defeat of the LA Galaxy.
The Dynamo have won the last three meetings between the teams, including a 2-0 victory last March 30 at BBVA Compass Stadium in their only encounter.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: DRAW
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: UNDER 2.5 goals

Saturday, May 24

New York Red Bulls vs. Portland Timbers 1-2

The Timbers extended their undefeated streak to four games – with a third draw in that time – with another late 3-3 against Columbus on Saturday.
When Gastón Fernández scored in the 85th minute, it was the third consecutive game – and fifth time this season – the Timbers had scored the tying or winning goal in the final 10 minutes or stoppage time. Fernández has three of those goals.
The Red Bulls are coming off back-to-back defeats for the first time this season, after their 2-0 loss at Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Bulls have won both meetings all-time at Red Bull Arena, including a 3-2 victory in the Timbers’ last visit to Harrison, Aug. 19, 2012.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Red Bulls to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Seattle Sounders 2-2

Whitecaps FC return to action off a bye week, their last match a 1-0 win on the road against the Columbus Crew, their second consecutive victory. Erik Hurtado scored his first professional goal in leading Whitecaps FC to the victory.
Obafemi Martins returned to the scoresheet with his fourth goal in the last six games to lead Sounders FC to a 1-0 win against San Jose on Saturday at CenturyLink Field, rebounding after seeing their five-game winning streak put to an end the week before at New England.
After going the first six meetings between the clubs in MLS play winless, Vancouver Whitecaps FC have won the last two games vs. their Cascadia rivals, including a 2-0 win last year in the only meeting at BC Place on July 6.
The clubs have a rivalry dating back to 1974 in the old North American Soccer League, and continuing through the A-League and USL First Division.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Whitecaps WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

Columbus Crew vs. Chicago Fire 2-0

The Crew put an end to their goalless streak after 335 minutes – equaling the longest in MLS this season – but still saw their winless streak extended to eight games in a wild 3-3 draw at Portland on Saturday evening.
Mike Magee scored multiple goals in a game for the fifth time in his MLS career – both from the penalty spot – in leading the Fire to a second consecutive victory, a 2-1 triumph over Sporting KC on Sunday.
The Fire have won on two of their last four trips to Columbus, including a 2-1 win last June 22 at Crew Stadium.
The Crew haven’t won at Toyota Park since the 2006 season. In the 11 meetings since in Bridgeview, the Fire have won six, with four draws, including a victory in the lone Bridgeview meeting a season ago.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Chicago Fire to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

New England Revolution vs. D.C. United 2-1

The Revolution became the third team in MLS history – and the first since 2001 – to score five goals in back-to-back games when they defeated Philadelphia Union 5-3 on Saturday afternoon at PPL Park. The LA Galaxy did it in 1998, Miami Fusion FC were the last.
The Revolution have won four games on the trot, their longest winning streak since the 2005 season, and are undefeated in their last six.
Fabián Espíndola collected his fourth assist of the season in United’s 1-1 draw with Montréal on Saturday. He has a goal or an assist in six of his last eight games, and now has four goals and four assists for the season.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season. An own goal and a late tally from Chris Rolfe gave United a 2-0 win, April 5 at RFK Stadium. The United win snapped a two-game Revolution winning streak in the all-time series.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Revolution to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

Colorado Rapids vs. Montreal Impact 4-1

The Rapids have lost back-to-back games for the first time under coach Pablo Mastroeni, seeing their winless streak extended to three games in a 2-1 loss at Real Salt Lake on Saturday evening.
Jack McInerney scored his second goal since coming to Montréal – but the Impact still could not make it a second league win for the season, tying 1-1 at D.C. United on Saturday evening.
The Rapids have won both meetings with the Impact all-time, a 3-2 win in 2012 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, and a 4-2 victory last June 29 at Stade Saputo in the only meeting between the teams.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Rapids to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

Real Salt Lake vs. FC Dallas 0-0

Real Salt Lake extended their season-opening undefeated streak to 11 games (6-0-5) – now one shy of the all-time MLS record – with their 2-1 win against Rocky Mountain rivals Colorado Rapids on Saturday evening.
Fabián Castillo netted his first goal since March 22 as FC Dallas saw their winless slide stretched in the1-1 home draw with Chivas USA on Saturday.
FC Dallas has come away with points on each of their last two games vs. Real at Rio Tinto Stadium, including a 1-1 draw last Oct. 5 in the only meeting in Utah.
Despite FC Dallas 1-2 loss to LA Galaxy, they are still one of the best MLS teams, and is very dangerous to bet against them.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

Friday, May 23

Sporting Kansas City vs. Toronto FC 2-2

Erik Palmer-Brown made his MLS debut at 17 years of age – the youngest defender to play a game in league history – but it ended early with a red card in Sporting’s 2-1 loss at the Chicago Fire on Sunday afternoon.
Jermain Defoe netted his first goal since March 22 – when he scored his third goal in his first two MLS games – in leading TFC to a 2-0 win Saturday against the New York Red Bulls.
SKC has never lost to TFC at Sporting Park, winning all four meetings between the teams there since the ground opened in 2011. TFC’s last win in Kansas City came March 21, 2009, a 3-2 victory at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Sporting KC is too good not to win this match, I would say both teams will score, and we should have total more than 2 goals.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Sporting KC to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

Wednesday, May 21

D.C. United vs. Houston Dynamo 2-0

After not being including in the USA’s preliminary 30-man roster for the FIFA World Cup, Eddie Johnson scored his first goal since coming to D.C. United in their 1-1 draw with the Montréal Impact on Saturday, but MLS Disciplinary Committee suspended him for one game for challenge against Impact goalkeeper Troy Perkins.
After scoring his first two career professional goals, Mark Sherrod set up Giles Barnes for the lone goal in the Dynamo’s 1-0 win vs. the LA Galaxy on Saturday evening.
The Dynamo have a five-game winning streak alive vs. D.C. United in league play, including victories in both games at RFK Stadium last year. United’s last win against Houston came April 28, 2012, a 2-1 win in Washington.
The Dynamo have never lost to D.C. United in Houston, winning nine of 10 meetings there all-time in league and cup play (with one draw).

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: DRAW
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: UNDER 2.5 goals

LA Galaxy vs. FC Dallas 2-1

The Galaxy saw their winless streak extended to four matches in a 1-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, their second offensive shutout in the last three games.
FC Dallas put an end to their four-game losing slide, but still had their winless run extended to five games in a 1-1 draw with Chivas USA on Saturday evening in Frisco.
The teams evenly split their three games a season ago, each winning once with one draw. The FCD victory in the first meeting snapped a four-game losing streak against the Galaxy, their first win in the series since May 1, 2011.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: FC Dallas to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals
