MLS Week 14 Preview, Picks and Predictions

After full of offensive fireworks, high scoring Saturday time for two Sunday’s matches, Revolution and Galaxy are my favorites to win, and we should see a few goals in both games.

Keep in mind I’m not even 42 % in my accuracy this season, but I have been their before. I’m not blaming my self for my predictions, but the players, and sometimes referees, most of the time is their fault.:)

However, despite poor start of the campaign, I’m confident trough the season, I should be able to get back to over 50%, but obvious goal is to cross 54% as earlier as possible.

Current Week 14 record 816 (accuracy 33.33 % )

Last Week 13 record 816 (accuracy 33.33 % )

2014 MLS Predictions record 105159 (accuracy 39.77 % )

Picks and predictions are usually published here at least 1-2 hours before the game time.

New England Revolution vs. New York Red Bulls 0-2

The Revolution saw their five-game winning streak – their longest in nearly a decade – come to an end in a 2-0 loss at the Montréal Impact on Saturday. The Revs won a club-record six games in a row in 2005.
The Red Bulls return to action after a week off, Bradley Wright-Phillips scoring his MLS-leading 11th goal of the season in their last match, a 1-1 draw at Sporting Kansas City on May 27. Wright-Phillips has scored 10 goals over the last seven games, since April 23.

New York has not won in New England since 2002. The Revolution have won 13 of 19 meetings in league and MLS Cup play since that last New York win. I would say, trend will continue 🙂
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Revolution WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

LA Galaxy vs. Chivas USA 1-1

Since his release from the U.S. national team, Landon Donovan has scored three goals in two games and now has 137 for his MLS league career, scoring the Galaxy’s lone goal in the 1-1 draw at the Chicago Fire on Sunday.
Chivas USA are coming off a pair of back-to-back defeats in a four-day span at StubHub Center, last a 3-0 defeat by Philadelphia Union on Saturday evening.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Robbie Keane, Stefan Ishizaki and Baggio Husidic all scored as the Galaxy rolled to a 3-0 win April 6.
The Galaxy have won the last three meetings between the teams, outscoring Chivas USA 9-0, and now have a six-game undefeated streak alive against their in-house rivals (5-0-1).
The Galaxy have won 11 of the last 13 league meetings, dating back to 2009. Chivas USA won 1-0 on May 19, 2012, their first victory against the Galaxy since Aug. 23, 2007, snapping an 11-game winless run in SuperClásicos.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Galaxy WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

D.C. United vs. Columbus Crew 0-0

Fabián Espíndola scored a goal for a third consecutive game, the only tally in United’s win against Sporting KC at RFK Stadium on Saturday. Espíndola is tied for fifth in the MLS Golden Boot standings with seven goals; he has three goals and two assists over the last four games.
Agustín Viana scored his first MLS goal in the Crew’s 3-2 loss at Toronto FC on Saturday, the club’s fifth loss in nine games after opening the season with three consecutive wins.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Federico Higuaín scored twice and Jairo Arrieta added a third as the Crew rolled to a 3-0 season-opening win, March 8 at RFK Stadium.

The Crew have won on their last two trips to the nation’s capital, but I don’t think they have shot today.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: D.C. United WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: UNDER 2.5 goals

Philadelphia Union vs. Vancouver Whitecaps 3-3

Conor Casey scored his first two goals of 2014 – his ninth career multiple-goal game – as Union won for a second time this season, a 3-0 win at Chivas USA on Saturday evening.
Pedro Morales had a pair of goals and two assists as Whitecaps FC extended their undefeated streak to six games in impressive fashion, defeating Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers 4-3 in a wild night Sunday at Providence Park. It was Vancouver’s first win ever against Portland in MLS.
Union won the only meeting between the teams a season ago, a 1-0 victory July 27 at BC Place. There has not been more than one goal scored in any of the four meetings all-time between the clubs.

Whitecaps FC have not won at PPL Park, with Union taking a win and a draw in the two meetings in Chester. I think both sides should be OK with a draw here.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: DRAW
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

Chicago Fire vs. Seattle Sounders 2-3

Marco Pappa scored his first MLS since 2012, when he was with the Chicago Fire, netting a perfectly-placed free kick in Seattle’s 4-0 win against previously undefeated Real Salt Lake on Saturday afternoon. Sounders FC have the best record in MLS, with 29 points from 14 games.
Sounders FC have won five consecutive games at CenturyLink Field, tied for the second-longest home winning streak in the club’s MLS history. They won six in a row at home last year.
Sounders FC have never lost to the Fire in eight meetings all-time in league play. Seattle has won five, including a 2-1 win last Sept. 7 at CenturyLink Field in the only meeting of 2013; the teams have played to three draws.

Sounders FC also won the 2011 U.S. Open Cup Final between the clubs.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Fire WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

FC Dallas vs. Colorado Rapids 3-2

FC Dallas had their winless run extended to eight games, falling 2-1 against the San Jose Earthquakes at Toyota Stadium on Saturday evening. It’s tied for the fourth-longest winless run in the club’s 19-year history.
Dillon Powers recorded a pair of assists in a game for the first time in his MLS career, a week after scoring two goals in a game for the first time, setting up the last two goals in Colorado’s 3-0 win vs. Houston on Sunday.
The teams split their three meetings a season ago, each winning once on their home ground, with the third meeting (in Commerce City) reaching a draw.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: DRAW
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: UNDER 2.5 goals

Real Salt Lake vs. Portland Timbers 1-2 ’63

Diego Valeri set up all three goals in the Timbers’ 4-3 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday afternoon, and now has an assist on each of the Timbers’ last four goals. The Timbers saw their six-game undefeated run come to end in the loss, their first-ever in MLS to their Cascadia rivals.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season, Ned Grabavoy’s goal in the 77th minute the difference in the 1-0 Real victory, April 19 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
The visiting team has won just once all-time in the series in league play – a 3-2 RSL win in Portland in 2012. Real are 4-0-1 all-time at Rio Tinto Stadium vs. the Timbers.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Timbers WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

Toronto FC vs. San Jose Earthquakes 1-0

Jermain Defoe scored a pair of goals for the second time in seven games in his first season in MLS, netting twice in TFC’s come-from-behind 3-2 victory against Columbus on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field.
Khari Stephenson has two goals and an assist over the last three games, setting up Jean Baptiste Pierazzi’s first goal in MLS – a stunning goal from long distance – in the Quakes’ 2-1 win at FC Dallas over the weekend.
The Earthquakes haven’t lost to Toronto FC in five meetings, with three victories (and two draws), including a 2-1 victory in the lone meeting a year ago, May 8 at Buck Shaw Stadium. TFC’s last win in the series came in 2010.

TFC has never defeated San Jose at home, with two losses and three draws all-time at BMO Field.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Earthquakes to WIN
