MLS Wednesday Preview, Picks and Predictions

New York Red Bulls visiting Philadelphia Union, and in Canadian East Coast vs West Coast derby, Toronto FC hosting Vancouver Whitecaps – both matches competing for game of the day, on the start 18th week of the season, this Wednesday. Due to roster rotations, as always be very careful in these midweek games.

The Galaxy, are the only my favorite to win this Wednesday, we should see some goals in Philadelphia, and likely low scoring affairs in Columbus and LA.

*Keep in mind I’m only around 41 % in my accuracy this season, but I have been their before. I’m not blaming my self for my predictions, but the players, and sometimes referees, most of the time is their fault.:)

However, despite poor start of the campaign, I’m confident trough the season, I should be able to get back to over 50%, but obvious goal is to cross 54% as earlier as possible.

Current Week 18 record 44 (accuracy 50.00 % )

Last Week 17 record 119 (accuracy 55.00 % )

2014 MLS Predictions record 140202 (accuracy 40.93 % )

Picks and predictions are usually published here at least 1-2 hours before the game time.

Wednesday, July 16

PHILADELPHIA UNION vs. NEW YORK RED BULLS 3-1

Union have scored three goals in five of their last seven games – but have just two wins and two ties (eight points of a possible 15) to show for the offensive production.
Bradley Wright-Phillips maintained his lead in the MLS Golden Boot standings with his 15th goal of the season in the 4-1 win against Columbus on Saturday. Wright-Phillips has 14 goals over the last 11 league games, since April 23.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Thierry Henry and Lloyd Sam scored goals 10 minutes apart midway through the second half to lead the Red Bulls to a 2-1 win, April 16 at Red Bull Arena.
The Red Bulls are 5-0-1 in home games vs. Philadelphia, having outscored Union 9-3, and also won a U.S. Open Cup game there in 2010.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Red Bulls to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

COLUMBUS CREW vs. SPORTING KANSAS CITY 1-2

Dom Dwyer maintained contact in the MLS Golden Boot with two more goals vs. Montréal, in Sporting’s 2-1 win on Saturday. Dwyer has 14 goals for the year, one behind New York’s Bradley Wright-Phillips; Dwyer has scored six goals in three SKC wins vs. the Impact (two in each game).
The Crew had their stretch of four consecutive draws ended in a 4-1 loss at New York on Saturday, their winless streak now at six games overall.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Jacob Peterson scored early and Claudio Bieler scored late as Sporting took a 2-0 victory May 4 in Kansas City.
The Crew have not defeated KC at home since a 1-0 win April 16, 2011. Sporting have won twice in their last three visits to Columbus, with one draw.

CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Sporting to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: UNDER 2.5 goals

TORONTO FC vs. VANCOUVER WHITECAPS 1-1

Toronto FC tied a club record with four goals in their 4-2 win against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday at BMO Field, set four times previously. It was the first time in TFC history they won a league game after falling behind by two goals.
The teams are meeting for the only time this season in league play, but they did meet in the semifinals of the Canadian Championship. Each team won 2-1 on their home ground in the home-and-home series, TFC winning the series on penalty kicks after the May 14 contest at BC Place.

The teams have evenly split their all-time league series, each winning twice in four lifetime MLS meetings. They have also now met three times in the Canadian Championship, Toronto FC winning the aggregate series on each occasion, including for the title in 2011 and 2012.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Toronto FC to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals

LA GALAXY vs. NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION 5-1

Gyasi Zardes scored his third goal over the last four matches as the Galaxy stretched their league undefeated run to seven games in the 1-0 win against Real Salt Lake on Saturday evening.
The Revolution saw their losing streak extended to five games in the 1-0 loss at the Chicago Fire on Saturday. It matches the club’s longest losing streak since losing six games in a row in a 2001, the Revolution’s longest ever in the post-shootout era (the club record is nine losses in a row, in 1997 and ’98).
The Revolution defeated the Galaxy 5-0 in the only meeting a year ago, June 2 at Gillette Stadium – the biggest margin of victory in the all-time series that began in the MLS inaugural season of 1996.

The Revolution have won the last two meetings between the teams, ending a string of three winless meetings with the Galaxy in Carson with a 3-1 victory on their last trip in 2012.
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: Galaxy to WIN
CHRIS’S PREDICTION: OVER 2.5 goals
