MLS Picks 31 / 2014

My apology for delays, and for not publishing predictions for last few games, I was going trough some health issues lately, but getting better everyday, and ready for some predictions for 31st week of the season.

D.C. United, Sporting and Whitecaps are my favorites to win their midweek games, more than 2 goals expected in both matches.

Current Week 31 record 57 (accuracy 41.67 % )

Last Week 30 record 97 (accuracy 56.25 % )

2014 MLS Predictions record 295326 (accuracy 47.50 % )

*Keep in mind I’m only around 47 % in my accuracy this season, but I have been there before. I’m not blaming my self for my predictions, but the players, and sometimes referees, most of the time is their fault.:)

However, despite poor start of the campaign, I’m confident trough the season, I should be able to get back to over 50%, but obvious goal is to cross 54% as earlier as possible.

Picks and predictions are usually published here at least 1-2 hours before the game time.

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored his 25th goal of the season to lead the Red Bulls to a 3-1 win against Toronto FC, a result which eventually ensured the club’s place in the postseason. It’s the fifth-most goals in a single season in MLS history; Wright-Phillips is two goals away from the all-time single season record with two games to play.
The Crew are on the verge of qualification for the MLS Cup Playoffs after scoring three goals in a four-minute span to storm back for a 3-2 win at Philadelphia Union on Saturday evening. It was the fastest three goals scored in club history, and tied for the fifth-fastest such burst in league history.
The teams are meeting for the third time this season. Thierry Henry scored a goal and assisted on three others as the Red Bulls rolled to a 4-1 win July 12 at Red Bull Arena. On April 26 in Columbus, Jairo Arrieta converted a penalty to give the Crew a first-half lead, but Bradley Wright-Phillips scored in the second half to leave the teams in a 1-1 draw.

The last Crew victory on the road at the Red Bulls came in 2010, a 3-1 victory in the first meeting ever at Red Bull Arena.

The teams are meeting for the second time this season, the first in a home-and-home series over the final two weeks to conclude the regular season and decide the Supporters’ Shield winner for 2014. On July 28, Landon Donovan scored once and added two assists as the Galaxy stormed to a 3-0 win at CenturyLink Field.
When the teams played to a 1-1 draw last Sept. 21 at StubHub Center, Sounders FC scored for the first time vs. the Galaxy in five meetings in Carson in league and MLS Cup play, since the 2010 season. The Galaxy victory in the first meeting this season was their first in Seattle since 2011.

The Galaxy had their three-game winning streak put to an end in a 2-1 loss at FC Dallas on Sunday evening.
Sounders FC lost for the first time in three games as Vancouver Whitecaps FC claimed the Cascadia Cup with a 1-0 victory at CenturyLink Field before a crowd of 55,765. I like Galaxy in this one.

Saturday, October 18

The teams are meeting for the third time this season. A late goal from the Fire’s Matt Watson left the teams in a 3-3 tie Sept. 20 at Toyota Park; a late goal from Chicago’s Quincy Amarikwa sealed a 2-2 draw March 29 at RFK Stadium.
The Fire have not lost to United in six meetings, since a 4-2 D.C. victory Aug. 22, 2012 at RFK Stadium. The Fire have won on three of their last five trips to the nation’s capital, with one draw, over the last five seasons. United last won at Toyota Park in 2009.

D.C. United have matched the greatest single-season turnaround in MLS history following their 3-1 win against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday afternoon. United have 55 points this year after recording just 16 points a year ago; the 39-point turnaround equaled the mark set by New York from 1999-2000 (15 to 54).
The Fire were shut out for a second consecutive match and saw their end-of-season winless streak reach seven games following a 2-0 loss at Sporting Kansas City on Friday evening.

Union were officially eliminated from playoff consideration as their winless streak reached five games in a 3-2 home loss to the Columbus Crew on Saturday evening.
Graham Zusi collected a goal and added an assist in the same time for the third time this season as Sporting officially secured their place in the MLS Cup Playoffs with a 2-0 win against the Chicago Fire on Friday evening at Sporting Park.
The teams are meeting for the third time this season. Brian Brown’s goal answered a strike from SKC’s Graham Zusi to leave the teams in a 1-1 draw, Aug. 1 at Sporting Park. On May 14 in Kansas City, Cristian Maidana’s goal quickly answered a late Dom Dwyer and gave Union a 2-1 win.

Union have won just once in five all-time matches against Sporting at PPL Park, that win coming June 23, 2012. SKC won on their two visits to Chester last year; the first two meetings at PPL Park ended in draws.

San Jose Earthquakes vs. VANCOUVER WHITECAPS 0-0
Whitecaps FC have won three consecutive games – matching the longest winning streak in the club’s MLS history – and are nearing qualification for the MLS Cup Playoffs following their 1-0 win at Seattle Sounders FC on Friday evening that gave the club the Cascadia Cup for a second straight year. Kekuta Manneh scored his first goal since May 3 as Whitecaps FC matched their winning run achieved previously in 2012.
The Earthquakes had their winless streak extended to 13 games – matching the club’s all-time record – with a third consecutive defeat in their 2-0 loss at Real Salt Lake on Saturday. The Quakes also went winless in 13 games in 2011.

The teams are meeting for the third time this season. Pedro Morales and Kendall Waston scored on either side of halftime to lead Whitecaps FC to a 2-0 win, Sept. 10 at BC Place. On May 3 in Vancouver, Morales scored twice as Whitecaps FC took an early 3-0 lead; Chris Wondolowski netted twice for the Quakes, but the ‘Caps still took the 3-2 victory.
Whitecaps FC have never won at Buck Shaw Stadium. But in four meetings all-time in Santa Clara, the Quakes have won only once – a 3-1 win in 2012. The Earthquakes have never won in Vancouver, as Whitecaps FC have won their last five home meetings between the clubs. The game will be the last Earthquakes MLS match at Buck Shaw Stadium, but motivation is clearly on visitors side, and I’m confident they will be ready for the challenge.
