United’s seven-game undefeated streak equals their longest of a year ago, which matches the club’s longest since going 13 games without defeat during the 2007 season.

With Fabian Espíndola out with a quadriceps strain, Jairo Arrieta made his first appearance in three matches – and scored his first goal since netting the only goal of the season-opening win vs. the Montréal Impact on March 7.

“He did a good job. It’s not an ideal game for him when teams just sit like that, but he does great on the goal and I thought he put in a good shift,” Olsen said.  With Arrieta in attack, Chris Pontius moved up to partner him in the strike pair, with Chris Rolfe again shifting back to a wide midfield role. Pontius collected his first assist of the season; his only goal came on March 28.

“He was very dangerous tonight when we put him up top,” said Olsen. “His ability to run the channels has helped us out and we wanted to exploit that in the second half – he does a great job of that. He looks like he’s getting his speed back as well, which is really nice. That takes a while, but he looked like he had some juice there towards the end.”

Said Pontius: “I feel like I’m able to run past people again, whereas before – after a year off, it doesn’t come back in a month. As much as you’d love for it to do that, it just [doesn’t. The confidence, making runs off the ball, how you read the game, it’s just a bit slow. I think I’m getting there but I still think I have a ways to go. I’ll keep working on it.”

D.C. United extended their undefeated run to seven games, reaching a 1-1 draw with Sporting Kansas City on Saturday evening at RFK Stadium. United are in a tie for first place in the Eastern Conference with 18 points from 9 matches.
Dating back to last season, United are now undefeated in their last 13 league matches at RFK Stadium, equaling the club’s second-longest undefeated run in regular season games in its history.

Fortunate last minute equalizer in last Orlando SC match vs Revolution, was a great confidence builder for entire team, and coach are very optimistic about playoffs.
“I still think we can make the playoffs in this league. We have now shown on more than one occasion that we can play with the best of them,” said Orlando City head coach Adrian Heath. “We started apprehensively and allowed a good, confident team to dictate the pace. But we had a few words at halftime and gave New England something to defend in the second 45 minutes. I thought the response of the players was magnificent. They turned it around with their willingness to work hard, and that’s very pleasing.”

Optimism is a good thing, but D.C. United are very solid team defensively, and even without Fabian Espindola, still very dangerous when attacking. I don’t expect many goals in this match, but United should take care of business and win 1-0 or 2-0.
