Washington, D.C. (August 23, 2011) - D.C. United announced today the club has signed defender Brandon McDonald to a new contract. Since being acquired from the San Jose Earthquakes for allocation money on June 27, the central defender has become a crucial part of United’s defensive success. McDonald has played in nine matches since joining United, starting each of those contests. In that span, the 25-year-old has helped the club to a 3-2-4 record, including four shutout performances. Tons of action this weekend on the west. FC Dallas will host Seattle Sounders, but real bestseller should be in Portland where Timbers host their rival the Whitecaps. California derby between Galaxy and Earthquakes always have some special taste, but this time Robbie Keane debut will still all the attention. Will Quakes use that in their advantage? SANTA CLARA, California – The San Jose Earthquakes lost for the first time in the club’s last seven games at home, dropping a 2-0 result against D.C. United in front of a sold out crowd of 10,525 at Buck Shaw Stadium. Former San Jose striker Dwayne De Rosario scored both goals for D.C. United, one in the 57th minute and another in the 66th minute, to lead United to the win. Read More »

The San Jose Earthquakes stretched their unbeaten streak to three games with a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Quakes came to life in the second half with goals from Ellis McLoughlin and Bobby Convey. McLoughlin headed home his first career goal following a perfect cross from Chris Wondolowski in the 71st minute to open the scoring. Convey then curled home an incredible free kick to give San Jose a two-goal cushion. Revs midfielder Chris Tierney scored a free kick of his own in the 86th minute to cut the score to 2-1, but the Quakes held on to win their second straight game at home. Read More »
